Ride the Streetcars through Town

If you’ve driven down Elizabeth Ave or Trade St recently, you may have noticed that you shared the road with the active street cars! They officially started running earlier this week. Free for riders, the street cars run until 11pm weeknights (midnight on Fridays and Saturdays), and until 7pm on Sundays. If you do happen to see a street car, some traffic rules to keep in mind: if the street car is running behind you, you do not need to pull over and let it go by. Be aware, however, that the street cars are heavy, and quick stops aren’t much of an option, so avoid slamming on your breaks if a street car is operating behind you. One intersection to be aware of, that the street car has the right of way: Hawthorne Lane and Elizabeth Ave. Here, the street car is located in the middle of the street. If the street car is heading uptown, and trying to make a right turn, it has priority over you. Enjoy this great new addition to our growing city!
